CSC590 - Digital Forensics Research/Practicum

Course Description
CSC590 is for students currently enrolled in either of the certificate programs. This course is an accumulation of all that students have learned in their previous course work. This intense hands-on experience involves students working as a team to successfully map out a live network consisting of 8-10 servers running various OSs on an assortment of RAID configurations. Students will then work as a team to form a plan for completing a full acquisition on the entire network, and then execute that acquisition. Through this process students will be tested on their ability to navigate through multiple workstation and server level OSs, recognize different level hardware and software RAID configurations, and use the most cutting edge tools in the industry to acquire an entire network.

It is highly recommended that students take the time to come and participate in this hands-on exercise. However, for those who are not able to attend the in-person training, an alternative research project can be arranged with the approval of Professor Fay-Wolfe.

Semester Taught
CSC590 is offered during the summer semesters.

Prerequisites
Current enrollment in the Professional or Graduate Certificate Program. Successful completion of CSC486 or CSC586.

Course Format
CSC590 is designed to be an intense 4-day hands on experience for students finishing their certificate programs. This course is held in-person at The University of Rhode Island Kingston Campus. This course is co-taught by Professor Dickerman, Professor Fay-Wolfe, and other subject matter experts in the areas of networking and computer forensics.
