College of Arts and Sciences - Department of Computer Science and Statistics - Digital Forensics
Digital Forensics is the application of forensic science techniques to the acquisition and analysis of evidence that exists in digital form (e.g. evidence found in files on hard drives, in emails, in network activity, etc).
The University of Rhode Island offers one of the most comprehensive degree programs in Digital Forensics through a Computer Science Department at a major university. This includes a variety of degree and certificate programs for undergraduate students, graduate students and working professionals.
To complement our academic program the University of Rhode Island also has one of the leading research programs in the field. Our research in Remote Digital Forensics Analysis Labs, Steganography Detection, Human Image Detection, Automated Forensic Search String Generation, Software Write Blocking, and Network Boot Disks have brought in over two million dollars in federal grant money making us one the highest funded digital forensics research universities.
The URI Digital Forensics program also has a practicing digital forensics investigation lab on campus where professional staff, faculty, and student interns perform digital forensics investigations for lawyers, law enforcement, companies, and individuals.
